Details on how Dollar General remodel location work now.

If you have been following our site or our Facebook page, you know that I moved the Dollar General remodel locations into the Penny Puss 2.0 app.  This is because it is easier for me – as it is a LOT of work.  But it’s only a small one-time fee.  You buy the Penny Puss 2.0 app to get the locations mapped out.  You also get “bonus” info sometimes.  Just a note, we only list ONE item in the Penny Puss 2.0 app that is 70% off, you have to find the rest.

A while back, I can’t remember exactly when, Dollar General changed the remodel process a bit.  The stores used to penny on the Sunday after frozen went to 50% off … now, it’s two Sundays after and sometimes the store is closed during that time and then reopens around Thursday.  Of course, you have to figure out if they will be open.  Also, the discount for the remodels is now 70% actually making it worth buying before they penny in some instances.

The “bonus” info right now is that there are some stores that frozen is going to 70% on Tuesday and these are NOT remodels.  These are just cooler resets or change outs, but 70% off food is an incredible savings!

If you do not have the Penny Puss 2.0 app, but you see that your store has 70% off frozen, go through the categories on the DG site or their app and see what else may be 70% off.  If there is nothing else, then it’s most likely not a remodel.  You can click on each category and then change the dropdown to “low to high” to help with the search.

In the past, I used to share the UPC’s of all the searches that I do, but I am a little leery about doing that anymore.  I think there are probably DG employees that watch some of our sites/Facebook pages and I don’t want to give out this info right now?  Am I paranoid?  LOL … maybe, maybe not.

All remodel stores are different.  An item that may be included in one remodel may not be included in others.  So, if your store IS going to be open on the day that these items penny, you want to be there first thing in the morning.  If not, then you want to plan on being at the store first thing in the morning when they reopen.  The items that pennied usually stay a penny for a few weeks, so you can even go back and see if they restocked any of the pennies!

While remodels used to be for people who could deal with the anxiety of a crowd of penny shoppers first thing in the morning, now with the 70% off these items, you may want to skip the penny shopping and just buy some deep discounted items ahead of time.  Of course, again, the items per each remodel location vary and you may not even want any of the stuff they have at 70% off.

I hope this has answered some questions.

Happy shopping!
