DG Go app for Penny Shopping at Dollar General!
A couple of weeks ago, Dollar General rolled out their DG Go app nationwide. There are still some areas and stores that don’t have it, but it’s available more widely than it was when they were testing it. It is a game changer for Dollar General penny shopping!
The DG Go app is not a 3rd party app, but Dollar General’s own app! You can price check in store as well as find digital coupon matchups. It’s absolutely great … when it works.
Most stores that have DG Go do not have the checkout in the app, but they do have a cart calculator and price checker. Unfortunately, the cart calculator did not calculate correctly for me when I used it that way. There were buy 1 get 1 free yellow dot clothing and I added a bunch. My total in the app said $13, but my total at checkout was $18.
The best thing about the DG Go app, however, is that you can price check for markdowns … and, YES, pennies!
The other issues that I have had with DG Go is that although it tells you to connect to store wi-fi, that part doesn’t work for me. I turn on Bluetooth and turn off Wi-Fi. At some stores, I need to go toward the front to get a signal though.
If the item is a penny item, it will show .01
If the items is a YMMV item, it will show the price, minus a discount, and then show .01 These are at select stores only. Your store may have the items, but they may not be marked down.
The price checker part has worked for me. Although I have heard from others that sometimes the app shows a penny and it still rings full price. Just something to be aware of. There is nothing you can do if an item does not ring a penny. You can either put it back or go ahead and purchase it to return it later. Personally, I don’t like doing returns.
The DG Go app will help in finding hidden clearance too! Every time seasonal items markdown, we wonder if there are other things that might be included … things without a dot or symbol. This new app will help with that too.
So, where does the Penny Puss APP with DG Penny Finder come in with DG Go now being available nationwide? Well, we still feel our app has merit otherwise. The Penny Puss APP is not just a penny app, it lets you know what is clearance too. We update both the Dollar General penny list and clearance in our app. This way, you can have a guide of what to look for even if you can check in DG Go. I mean, honestly, you can’t really go around the whole store and scan everything. You still need to have an idea of what is marked down.
Go download the DG Go app and check to see if you have stores in your area. The scanner will only work in the store. The scanner bar is black when you are not in a store that has DG Go.
