Do I need an app to penny shop at Dollar General?

Do I need an app when penny shopping at Dollar General.

Well the answer is “no”.  There is no requirement to download any app to penny shop at Dollar General.  But, I recommend that you do.  In fact, I recommend that you download not 1, but 2 apps!  And I will tell you why.

  1.  DG Go – the DG Go app is a great tool for using in the store.  You must allow location for the app to update to the store you are currently in.  It is automatic and works when you are in the store only.  The scanner turns yellow when you can scan.

Dollar General has discontinued the DG Go app and now has their Dollar General App with the DG Go feature.

  1. Dollar General App – the Dollar General app will let you know the price of an item in a specific store, but you must update the preferred store each time you go to a different Dollar General.  It has to be changed manually and will tell you the price in the preferred store that you have set.  The scanner is under the “list” tab at the bottom of the app.  The Dollar General app no longer shows an item to be a penny when it pennies out.  It shows $0.00 when scanned.  But you must scan it … adding it to your list in the app and changing stores may give you erroneous $0.00 information. 2. Penny Puss APP w/ DG Penny Finder – if you want to know what the new list is and what has pennied recently, it is arranged by category/date that the items pennied.  The penny list is usually entered ahead of time and then the list is verified the morning that they are supposed to penny.  It also has pictures of what items people are getting recently for pennies.  This app does not have a scanner and since the Dollar General app has been updated as a scanning app, it seems irrelevant to have a 3rd party scanning app.

The Dollar General apps is free, but the Penny Puss APP w/ DG Penny Finder is a nominal one-time only fee.

If you are new to penny shopping at Dollar General, I would suggest that you go to PennyPussAPP.com and click on the link for the basics.  The stores are supposed to sell the items to you, but are not supposed to allow you to go back for more.  Also, if you ask for a price check, they can also refuse.  This is considered “fishing” for pennies.  The best thing is to know what you are doing and verify before going to checkout.
