Dollar General – what you need to know about remodels.

I am getting asked a lot of the basic questions about remodels through messages on Facebook as well as through the app.  Instead of keep answering individually, since it gets a little overwhelming … and I am getting ready for my holiday dinner tomorrow.

Anyway, I hope this answers most questions.

A remodel is when they change things around in a store and various items are discontinued (marked to 50%) then penny usually on a Sunday. A reset is a section of the store that pretty much does the same thing. Occasionally resets are on a different day than Sunday.

You need to check your store EARLY Sunday morning to see if the items pennied.  Do NOT rely on your “list” in the DG app.  Manually enter the UPC’s or if you have the UPC’s available, you can also scan them … but, again, do not rely on the list in the DG app.

Most remodel locations discount their refrigerator/freezer food to 50% two weeks before the other items penny. Refrigerator / freezer usually does not penny.  (It used to be the Sunday after the refrigerator/freezer food went to 50%).  Dollar General is always changing things. 

Your Dollar General may or may not be open when the items penny.

The UPC in the details of each location (in the Penny Puss 2.0 app) is the item that i used to find that particular store and was at 50%. I check each week to see if it’s still 50%.

The stores are sometimes closed now for remodels. You can buy at 50% off before … and also check for pennies when they reopen.

You will need to build a list of 50% items at your store (all stores are different). You will need to do this BEFORE they penny. Search the DG app or the Dollar General site by categories. Some items may also be on sale at all locations and these items will not penny.
