Fresh Baked Bread from the Flannel Roots Farm in my own hometown!

If you know me at all, I try to shop small businesses when I can … and when it’s available.  So I was really happy a few weeks back when I saw this ad listing in my Facebook group for fresh eggs, apple butter, pepperoni rolls, and BREAD … by a micro farm called the Flannel Roots Farm.

I finally remembered to get an order in for the bread (which they sell on Fridays locally) and I went to pick it up today at the time I had requested.  It was still warm!

I wanted to try it right away, so I got out my honey – gifted to me by a dear friend (and a little butter).  If you are local, you can find the micro farm’s Facebook page here:

Check it out and see what else they are doing on their farm.  I got to meet one of the precious little baby ducks today!

Does it get any better than this?  This is the type of bread that you want to just tear off a chunk … not slice it.  Well, of course, that is my opinion and you can slice it if you want.

I never tried making bread myself and always wished that I could find someone to make it for me.  My nephew made me a loaf once.  He is an excellent baker.  But, back to the Flannel Roots Farm bread – it is awesome bread and hopefully my new go-to for fresh bread!

Plus, you can possibly get it too as they are also on Market Wagon!  They have 2 offerings on the Market Wagon site right now – bread and pepperoni rolls!  I don’t know much about Market Wagon as to how far they travel, but check them out.  Shop local and shop small!  Here are the listings for Flannel Roots Farm:

I still can’t believe there is a micro farm this close to me.  I think it’s great and I also think that everyone should try gardening.  There are so many things you can grow yourself that are really easy.  Pea microgreens are super easy!  I think it’s great that people are getting back to being a little more self-sufficient.

If you are interested in gardening or growing microgreens, here are some of my favorites:

Sprouting.com – this is where I get most of my microgreen seeds.  They are located in Canada.  I know that I said buy local … but I haven’t found a local bulk supplier of organic seeds yet.  I highly recommend the speckled peas.  They grow into really nice microgreens!  I buy bulk to make it worthwhile.  If you don’t want to buy in bulk, Fruition Seeds sells microgreen seeds too.

Fruition Seeds – I buy a lot of my seeds from this site.  They also have a nice library of free online courses and webinars!  You will love this site too!

And these are the trays that I use for my microgreens.  They are very durable:

I use vermiculite (be sure it’s horticulture vermiculite) with worm castings for my growing medium.  I sometimes skip the worm castings if I am out of them.

Happy shopping!
