Giant Eagle to stop doubling coupons plus other big changes!
So, I know Giant Eagle is slowly rolling out a plan to eliminate the use of plastic bags, but they are also making other big changes. Giant Eagle is discontinuing the doubling of coupons as of March 1st. They actually tried it a few years back and a lot of people were unhappy about it, so they reversed their decision. It looks like they are going ahead with it now.
Giant Eagle is one of the higher priced grocery stores in our area. I really don’t shop there much unless I am looking for something that I cannot find elsewhere … or just to see what might be on clearance. The changes that will definitely impact their customers.
I do think it’s great that Giant Eagle is trying to eliminate their blue plastic bag use. They started already at 3 of their stores and plan to eliminate all use the of the plastic bags by 2025. See: Giant Eagle Sustainability
I also like that they are putting cheaper (99¢) reusable bags at the checkouts now.
They are also making changes to their coupon policy as well as their fuel perks policy.
This is big! Giant Eagle will stop doubling coupons as of March 1st! I know that there are some people who do a lot of couponing at Giant Eagle, and I think this is going to be a hard transition for them. Also, according to Cleveland 19 News (I could not find a source on Giant Eagle’s website), if you earn less than 50 fuel perks in a month, they will not carry over to the next month. You will only have the remainder of that month to use them
These are definitely changes that are going to affect Giant Eagle shopper’s wallet. My favorite thing about our local Giant Eagle is that they sometimes have fresh shiitake mushrooms and even occasionally fresh oyster mushrooms. I don’t see the quality of their other produce being any better than our local Walmart or Aldi stores though.
Do you shop Giant Eagle? What do you think of the changes?
