May 2 – Dollar General Employee Walk Out / Strike #putinaticket
So, tomorrow is May 2nd and Dollar General employees have scheduled a country-wide employee walkout at Dollar General to protest work conditions. Most of our local Dollar General stores here have awesome employees that work hard to keep their stores nice.
I have been posting Dollar General deals since 2014 and have shopped in many Dollar Generals and have seen the terrible store conditions first hand between leaking ceilings, broken doors, and crowded aisles (sometimes blocked aisles). I do not know how many Dollar General employees will walk out or strike, but they are also asking for shoppers to boycott Dollar General on May 2nd. The time for their protest is supposed to be from noon to 6 pm.
My grandma quit going to her local Dollar General because she said that she can’t even get down the aisles. She walks with a cane, but can use a shopping cart in the store to help her, but a shopping cart won’t fit down the aisles. I would think that physically disabled persons couldn’t shop in some of these stores at all! This is the Dollar General that she used to shop at. The picture was taken last November:
Many of the Dollar General employees that I know are fully dedicated to their stores. They have pride in their work, but sometimes it just gets to be too much. One local manager told me that she tried to get better pay for employees during the lockdown … but to no avail.
This #putinaticket movement started when a Florida manager made a Tik Tok video series about Dollar General’s work conditions. You can see that here:

Here at Penny Puss, we have always advocated for the employees and have stressed to be kind and never to make a mess. I hope this #putinaticket movement helps to secure better working conditions and pay for the Dollar General employees.
