Nope, still not buying it.
As you know, I am all about saving money, but sometimes I just have to say, “no”. Are you like this with any products? Walmart had a whole display of Heinz Mayonnaise with $1.50 coupons on them. Tempting? Not to me.
Hellmann’s has a completely different taste … there is nothing that compares. My husband likes Miracle Whip. Regular “mayonnaise” has no taste to me. It’s just like congealed grease. Local sub shop uses Dukes, and it’s okay … but still doesn’t compare to Hellmann’s. I wouldn’t buy it, but it’s not bad on their sandwiches.
I even got a $2.50 off Catalina coupon from Giant Eagle the other day, still “nope”.
We tried Hellmann’s Ketchup, that was a “no” too! And, I don’t play around. These items go right in the trash if my husband and I don’t like them. It seems so wasteful sometimes. I’m not sure why these companies keep trying to put out a different version of products that already have excellent brands. I bought some smoked provolone cheese from my local grocer’s deli a couple weeks ago. I didn’t like it and neither did my husband. Lucky my grandma stopped by the day after and I was telling her about it. She tasted it and liked it … so she took it with her.
I guess I am quite brand loyal when it comes to certain products, and not because I like the “brand” name, but because I have tried a lot of products and decided what I like the best.
Some of the items that I rarely compromise:
Scott Toilet Paper … I did try a DG similar brand when I got it insanely cheap. But I still prefer Scott.
Scott paper Towels … I still like them, but I think they have made them cheaper. Been looking for a replacement for a long time but still have not found anything I like more. I don’t like print paper towels. Also, I use them for everything and I don’t feel the need to have a thick paper towel. So, for now, I guess I’m sticking with them.
All Free & Clear … I don’t like smells. I honestly can’t imagine using those fragrant (obnoxious to me) smelly laundry products. Gain, Tide, Downy, Snuggle … just a big old NOPE.
I buy Jenny O roasted turkey breast and Guggisberg Swiss cheese at our local town grocer. Occasionally I do buy different deli meat and cheese, but we usually stick to this for my husband’s lunches … and well, my cat likes this turkey too!
I am also unhappy about stores deciding to stop carrying name brands and replacing these products with their brands. Walmart used to carry Stonefire Naan Bread.
I love this stuff! I even would use it for making personal pizzas. My favorite pizza on these is a garlic olive oil “sauce”, mozzarella, and fresh veggies.
This one was made with fresh tomatoes and peppers from the local farmer’s market.
Walmart no longer carries this bread though, so I have not made my “pizza” in a long while. They now have Walmart brand naan bread. Nope. Nope. And, nope, again. I don’t want to be disappointed.
I think I waste a lot of money trying products and not ending up liking them. As I said earlier, this seems wasteful. So even if something is cheap, it may not really be saving money if it goes straight in the trash.
Giant Eagle had a ready made salad kit that was like salad crack to me. I absolutely loved the flavor. Then they replaced it with their own brand. I was so disappointed. Their brand was not even close. I sometimes wonder if I am just too picky … or do other people get discouraged when stores replace products with store brands or off brands.
Do you have brand loyalties? Are you disappointed when stores quit carrying items that you use frequently? What are some of your favorite “go to” products?

I don’t buy a lot of canned products. But I do have a couple of foods that I keep in stock usually. Need a quick meal? This chili starter is the BEST!
This is my go to chili … all you need is ground beef and a can of tomatoes, but I add a couple stalks of celery to give it crunch. You really can’t taste the celery, it’s just about the texture. I usually purchase these from my local town’s grocery store. If I make 2 at a time, sometimes I will add a can of black beans too.
And I usually buy Genova Yellow Fin Tuna, and I get it at our local Walmart. One of my favorite comfort foods is tuna macaroni salad. Just boil the noodles and let cool Then add tuna, mayonnaise, and diced celery. I use onion if I’m making a tuna sandwich, but when I make macaroni salad, the onions seem to make it watery (and yucky) if it is in the fridge for more than a day.
