The Penny Puss 2.0 App is now available in both major app stores!  It is a $9.99 one-time fee to help support our recent business expenses.  There are no additional charges and no subscriptions at this time.

So, you are interested in Dollar General remodels.  We have an app for that.

Penny Puss 2.0 app is available in both the major app stores.

This is how it “usually” works:

  1.  The basics are that a store goes to 70% off select items on Thursdays … it could be just a few or maybe thousands of items that they no longer have a place for because they are remodeling … or refreshing their store.
  2. A few Monday’s later the store may ALSO reduce their refrigerated and frozen items (some exclusioned items).  Not all stores reduce their refrigerated/frozen.  Quick note is that I have seen a few people say that their stores were limiting how much you can buy … just a heads up.  I’ve personally never had this happen.
  3. Then a couple Sundays later, the items that were 70% go to a penny.
  4. If the store reduced frozen/refrigerated then they will most likely be closed the day the items penny.  You can go when they reopen a few days later to see if you can locate any items that pennied.
  5. If the store didn’t reduce the refrigerated/frozen, then that store will most likely stay open … and you can go look for the pennies on the day they actually penny.
  6. Please remember that pennies are never guaranteed.  Always double check the items with the DG app to see if it scans at $0.00 … that would be a penny item.  But again, sometimes the app glitches and shows an item $0.00 and it still rings up reg price.  This doesn’t happen very often, but something to keep in mind.
  7. If something rings a price that you don’t want to pay … ask nicely to take that item off and put the item back.
  8. Any markdown, including penny items, can vary from store to store.  Always use the DG app with the correct store selected when scanning.
  9. There is a “list” in the DG app where you can add items to keep an eye on prices, but this list is not reliable.  Sometimes it will show an item as $0.00 but it is not a penny.  Sometimes it will show a previous price even if it is now reduced in price.  Again, it is not accurate and not a reliable tool.

About finding Dollar General remodels on your own … or maybe just about remodels in general. Some things that I wanted to post about.
Sometimes when I switch over from one store to another on the DG website, the banner showing the store is remodeling still shows when I change to a non-remodel store. I think it’s a cookie that doesn’t go away sometimes. We all know how wonky their website can be.
If you think a location is a remodel, check the “baked with love”, “zone pro”, gum/candy, “mossy oak” … pretty much all the categories and see if you can find anything that is 70%.
It is always possible that it is a future remodel and they put the banner up too soon.
It is again, also possible, that it’s such a small refresh that nothing on the website is showing or there is nothing that is reduced and they are only changing things up like getting new shelving or coolers/freezers.
I found a location that only had 11 things show 70% and another only show 7 things at 70% … if there are items that are marked down AND they are older items, they may also not show up on the website. DG removes some of their older items from their site.
One location recently had refrigerated/frozen marked down on a Monday as they do with some of the remodels but I could find NOTHING at all else in that store foro 70% off. So maybe they are just, in that instance, changing out cooler/freezers.
Another thing that happened that I thought “might” be a remodel is those containers … they showed up one day. But, when I asked, I was told that they were for a different store that didn’t have room in their parking lot.
Anyway, I just wanted to say that it doesn’t hurt to keep an eye on those stores. You never know with DG. That is why I do not like to answer questions like “when will frozen go down if it is going to?” … and “when will this store penny?” … because Dollar General changes things up. Sometimes remodels are delayed or cancelled too.
One more thing … if you have the Penny Puss 2.0 app, you can figure out timing from when a remodel “usually” starts to when frozen “may” go to 70% to when the store “might” penny.

Happy shopping!
