Some stuff I want to talk about – DG related.

Okay, so I have a couple things that I want to talk about.  First, the Dollar General clearance event that was this past weekend. 

I didn’t buy much … why?  Because some of the stores did not honor their signs that said 75% off.  The manager at my local Dollar General insisted that the price was 75% off … NOPE!  She said because they were 25% and now an extra 50%, they were 75%.  I tried to tell her that was not the case, so I bought 1 thing at that store and just 1 thing at the store up the road.

I used to have to explain this to shoppers all the time.  You do NOT add the percentages together to get the amount of an item. 

For instance, I bought a $6 item.  25% off of $6 would make the item  $4.50 … then an additional 50% will make the item $2.25 … that does NOT equal 75% off!  If the item was 75% off, it would be $1.50.  So, the few things that I did buy were not as advertised.  That is why I bought only one thing at each of these stores … to ask if they were going to override for the correct percentage shown.  But it seems like the manager at our local Dollar General and the employee at the other one just a short bit away, didn’t understand this.  

Was it a significant discount … well, sure.  But, it was not what I was expecting to pay.  Especially since they kept saying that the included items were 75% off. 

There were other items that I wanted to buy at 75% … unfortunately the people who were working when I shopped didn’t understand this concept.  

One store actually advertised (with written shelf signs) that you would get an extra 25% off at the register on top of the other promotions.  I asked and did get the extra 25% off at that store.  This store did not have the signs that said 75% off … and actually, the item was a better deal than 75% off.  But, that is because this store was 50% off to begin with and then 50% off extra due to the clearance event which made the item that I bought $8 only $2 … 75% off.  But, as I said, this store also posted an extra 25% will be taken off at register making it a much better deal. 

If you can, you should try to find the best store during a clearance event.  Unfortunately not all stores understand what is going on.  I sometimes feel like it’s intended this way for max confusion.

Anyway, if you have read this far … looks like the Popits are a penny … check the other fireworks!
