Dollar General 25¢ Christmas starts Tuesday!

I’m a little surprised that Dollar General is already changing their Christmas clearance over to 25¢ on Tuesday.  Right now Christmas is 70% and holiday baking, food, candy, and air care is only at 50%.

But if you’ve noticed lately, they are really moving the upcoming holidays and summer stuff into their stores quickly.  I guess they need the extra space.

So this is what will go to 25¢ on Tuesday, January 19th:

  • Christmas Candy
  • Holiday Baking
  • Holiday Air Care 
  • Holiday Paper 
  • Holiday Gift Sets
  • Holiday Pet 
  • Christmas Seasonal
  • Christmas Stationery/Party
  • Holiday Apparel and Socks

Please don’t stop reading here though as I’d like to explain a little about some of the categories.

Christmas Candy – this is mostly candy that looks “Christmassy”, like candy canes and candy that has holiday scenes on the packaging.  Most boxed candy that you may think is Christmas will be moved over to Valentine’s Day and will stay full price for now.

A few items included in the clearance candy that are not obvious are the 5 count Queen Anne Chocolate Cherries (10 count will be full price), $1 Russel Stover box, and Zachary Thin mints.  I’m sure there are others, you can scan with the DG app to verify.

The Penny Puss app with DG Penny Finder has more pictures, but you can always search the Facebook groups too.

I also believe both sizes of the red and white “tin” Pirouline Chocolate Hazelnut cookies are included in the Christmas clearance.  One is 10 oz and the other is 3.25 oz.  There are new ones out that are full price for Easter, so be careful on what you are getting.

Holiday Baking – some of the items included are Butterscotch Chips, Sugar Cookie Mix, seasonings, and almond bark pictured.  Also, the Clover Valley French Fried Onions and Cranberries should be included.

I know that I say “should”, but Dollar General sometimes changes things and we have no control over what they do.  I thought the $10 pack of Sharpies was included, because when Christmas went to 50%, they rang up $5.  But, now that Christmas is at 70%, they are still ringing up $5.  Will they mark down to a quarter?  I have no idea.

Holiday Air Care – I would suggest that you get your coupons together if you have any Febreze, Air Wick, or Glade.  Some stores may not give overage as they are changing their point of sale systems, but you should still be able to get them free.  Don’t quote me on that though!  If they do give overage, remember that they are NOT ALLOWED to give cash back.  Please do not put an employee in that position – always have something to cover overage.

Holiday Paper – would be wrapping paper.  In many of the past years, it would be moved to the back room for the next year, but it is supposed to be included in markdowns this year.

Holiday Gift Sets – most gift sets are NOT included.  The ones that are included will most likely be obvious “Christmas” looking.

Holiday Pet – I’m really not sure what all is included in holiday pet.  I think these Evolve treats are though.  They are ringing $1.50 right now and I think their regular price is $3.  But again, if you are going to purchase them, verify with the DG app.

Christmas Stationery – I believe includes the angel pens, angel cat pens, and angel dog pens.

You can always check the UPC’s in this post on Tuesday morning to see if they are included.  If they don’t scan into the DG app, just put them in manually.

Christmas Party – should include the regular red and white print holiday plates, napkins, and cups.  The Mickey Mouse and other “licensed” plates, napkins, and cups are most likely not included as they have been full price all along.

Holiday Apparel and Socks – I am sorry, I thought I had a picture of the socks, but I cannot find it.  These pajamas are included.

For NCI stores the red tagged vases will most likely be included with the 25¢ sale as they have been following Christmas markdowns all along.  But again, we cannot be certain.  I have been blogging about Dollar General for over 6 years and these are my best “guesses”.

One last thing, Christmas “Plastics” as DG calls them are NOT included.  This usually means the wreath storage, tree storage, and big plastic bins.  So they will most likely ring full price.

I can’t wait till Tuesday!  It’s like Christmas – only after Christmas!
