Dollar General – ordering clearance and penny items online
So, since I posted my recent Dollar General haul for 90% off the carry over gift sets from Christmas, I have received some messages concerning how to go about getting these deals online. First, I will go over ordering online in general.
There are 3 different way to add items to your cart or list in the Dollar General’s app and online. If you are ordering for delivery to your house, you will need to go on the Dollar General website (DG.com). Be sure you are on the correct tab at the top. One tab is for ordering for DG.com and other is for pickup.
Be sure DG.com is underlined as such:
Next you will want to go to the search box and search for whatever you are looking for. Right now, during the clearance event, you can order many of the clearance items online for delivery to you. I’m going to search for “food” as an example.
Then I am going to change the drop down box from low to high.
Quite a few items are “in store” only, so to further narrow your search, you can change the box on the right to “online and in store” so that the “in store only” items are not shown.
Now that you have it narrowed down, look for items that are on clearance. Here are the first three items that I show:
You can add these items to your cart. You can see that they are showing 50% off their regular clearance price right now. That is how you order clearance online. Remember that you will have to pay shipping, so you want to be sure that what you get is worth the shipping you will pay.
So, to order pennies online, it’s not much different. Dollar General does change things up now and then though. I have actually ordered this same way twice now (2 different years) when yellow dot clothing went to a penny. They were just right on the website to add to the cart.
But, sometimes they do remove items from the site before the items penny. So, you may have to be a little proactive about ordering. If you know something is going to penny soon and it still shows online, go ahead and ad it to your cart. Just leave it there. This has worked for me a few times in the past, but not every time. Sometimes my cart is emptied.
Also, items online don’t always mark down the same as in the store. The nice thing about ordering clearance online is that (even though you have to pay shipping), you don’t have to run around from store to store looking for the items.
If you have any questions, let me know!
Happy shopping!
